Josephine Smith AE ACA MSc BSc

Josephine is one of the few IPEd Accredited Editors in WA. The Institute of Professional Editors Ltd (IPEd) introduced the accreditation scheme in 2008 to provide a nationally recognised standard within the editing profession.

Currently a committee member of the Society of Editors (WA) Inc., Josephine is also the IPEd Councillor representing the society on the IPEd Council and the Honorary Treasurer for IPEd. Josephine has been a freelance editor for over five years and specialises in Australian English spelling and usage. The following standard reference materials are used:

• Style Manual for authors, editors and printers, 6^th edition
• Macquarie Concise Dictionary, 4^th edition

Proofreading and editing work can also be completed using UK English or US English spelling and grammar.

Josephine is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a member of the ICAEW with over ten years experience in Perth and the United Kingdom. She is highly conversant with formal business writing including various styles of reports, letters and presentations. She specialises in proofreading annual reports and financial statements, including full add-checking (casting) requirements.

Josephine also spent three years in academic research and is therefore familiar with the style requirements for academic papers.

Qualifications include:

• Accredited Editor (Institute of Professional Editors)
• Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales
• MSc Crop Protection, University of Bristol, UK
• BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences, University of Durham, UK

In her spare time she writes short stories and is currently working on her second novel. She is looking forward to working with other writers, either on their short stories or manuscripts intended for self-publication or traditional publication.
